Jane Yolen is an acclaimed American children's book author with more than 360 published works. Specializing in fantasy and science fiction, Yolen is one of the world's most respected and recognizable authors of children's books. She is best known for her award-winning picture books, including Owl Moon, The Devil's Arithmetic, and How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?

Yolen was born in New York and raised in nearby Connecticut. She developed an early love of books and writing, which she credits as the inspiration for her career as a children's author. After earning a Bachelor's degree in Literature from Smith College, Yolen became a full-time writer and eventually achieved success with The Devil's Arithmetic, which won both the National Jewish Book Award and the Jewish Book Council's Jane Yolen Prize for Jewish children's literature.

Yolen has also written historical fiction, folk tales, and poetry, for which she has won several awards, including the Hobbit Prize, the Kerlan Award, the Kerlan Fellowship, the Regina Medal, and the Golden Kite Award. She is a recipient of the World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement and was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2009.
